The kribi deep sea port stands tall among big sea ports in the world, following the political ambition that has propelled the initiative. As such the light that will illuminate the economy of Cameroon and the sub region in the near future will take it source from this seaport.

Some 34 media men and women under the umbrella of French press association, Union international de la Presse Francophone abbreviated UPF, Littoral chapter under the leadership of its president Dipita Tongo, visited the newly constructed Kribi deep Sea Port on Friday 5th of September 2025. The working visit that took them to discover the Kribi Logistic Hub KLH and the Kribi Container Terminal KCT fell under the invitation of one of the deep Sea Port’s key partner, Africa Global Logistics AGL, permitted the press folks to uncover that the Kribi deep Sea Port was one of its kind in the whole of the sub region, with many untold potentials that do not envy seaports in developed countries.

Under the significant contribution of AGL, the new deep sea port can boast of the construction of ultramodern warehouses covering 2.4 hectares of land on part of the 7 hectares provided to that effect. One of the warehouses is complete and numerous bales of cotton from Cameroon and from Chad are now stocked therein ready for export, while others are still under construction and will soon be completed in view of stocking cocoa and coffee, including other commodities for export.

In addition, African Global Logistics AGL has paved a space of 1.7 hectares ready for stockpiling thousands of containers both full and empty, of 20ft and 40ft which might have just arrived with the ship or which are empty. All these, with the aid of heavy duty equipment in the likes of Reach stakers, forklift, tractors and other heavy duty trucks that are available on ground to transport the containers.

The Kribi Lugistic Hub KLH saw the light of day in 2018 and it is situated very close to the deep sea port and very instrumental in the stocking and distribution of goods for import and export both in Cameroon and throughout the sub region. Flanked by Delphine Tagem, Shipping operation manager Socopao/AGL in Kribi, the Kribi Development Director (representing AGL) Honorine Magne talking to the press revealed that the Kribi Logistic Hub started in 2018 and it has a 7 700m sq shipyard provided for stockpiling. Work is going on to extend it to 10 000m sq by 2026.

 Kribi Container Terminal foot printing

The central African sub region will soon see its economy blossom with the arrival of the Kribi deep sea port that harbors some of the biggest ships in the world measuring up to 400m long and that could transport up to 24 000 containers. According to David Azra, Director General of the Kribi Container Terminal KCT, these large sea vessels encore in the sea port twice a month. “In the first 7 months of this year2025, we have off loaded 272 897 containers as compared to 174 628 containers the same period in 2024. Which gives us a 56.27% increase in activities. Our objective is to reach a 1million EVP annually” he said.  It is but logical to have this ambition after an investment of 70 billion frs CFA has been put in to obtain a topnotch infrastructure that contain a water draft of 16 meters and a quay length of 715 meters among other striking features that have permitted the direct employment of 400 persons. This paints a clear picture of what the town of Kribi and Cameroon as a whole will look like in terms of development in the nearest future.

Time is money

Having the capacity of welcoming the biggest ships in the world in the likes of MSC Turkiye that come directly from Europe without stopping midway to demand for good transfer by smaller vessels, the Kribi deep sea ports permits businesses to gains much time and reduces freight cost. The administration of the KCT terminal have worked it out for bills to be paid electronically not forgetting the posiblility for businessmen to clear their goods at a distance, like from Ngoundere, Maroua, Bafoussam and so on.

This is always very important as it prevents the business people from wasting their time and uselessly spending their money.

Needless will it be to mention that the containers are scanned at 100%, reduced physical contact hence reduce theft like in other ports. All this with much time consciousness, less goods damages and with less time consumed.

The control room

Initially welcomed by the top management of the Kribi Container terminal hence the General Manager David Azra and team, the group of press men and women had the privilege to visit the control room of the KCT where they discovered that the whole of the sea port was on camera. This room is the nerve center of the ports as every operation carried out in the sea ports is seen on the numerous screens therein. From loading and offloading of ships to movements of heavy duty equipment and other operations are programed and monitored in this room.

All the same, the infrastructure is fantastic, but the road from other towns leading to and from the Kribi deep sea port is a serious call for concern.
