For a while now Douala the economic capital of the republic of Cameroon had become a very frightful town to move around, be it in the day or in the night. Groups of drugged rascals under the appellation of “Microbe” will come out will knives and machetes from time to time to attack and terrorize the innocent citizens.
Faces with this kind of insolence, the authorities of the city could not sit on their comfort zone and watch the beautiful economic capital of Cameroon transformed to a far west. Hence, following the attack on the residential areas of the town, Bali and Bonapriso in the Douala 1 district on the evening of September 20th that left one person dead and several others injured, the governor of the Littoral Region Samuel Dieudonné Ivaha Diboua was very upset as he came out to express himself. “Douala is not unlivable as some people want you to make it seem. Nevertheless, force will remain with the law” he blasted!
Though the perpetrators of the act were caught a couple of days later and paraded in the streets in the presence of the media, it did not stop another group to follow suit just about two weeks later in another neighborhood, Citee de Palmier in the Douala 5 District, injuring many people, stealing money and handsets. Faced with this insolence, authorities have henceforth installed a very serious control system in the city of Douala following a prefectural order that was issued yesterday 9th of October 2024.
The order states that there will be a mix control post in all the hot spots of the whole of Wourri Division which will carry out a thorough check on persons and vehicles, and all who will fail to respect will be detained or vehicles will be impounded.
Hopefully that these measures will help commuters of the economic capital to gain back the peaceful life of their city.
